Too Famous To Get Fully Dressed

Tonight // Dillinger Escape Plan & Murdock @ The Academy

Searching for a flyer for tonight’s Dillinger Escape Plan shindig in the Academy, I stumbled across this: an ad for the group’s 2008 show at Whelans with Between the Buried and Me and Stolen Babies. How did I not know about this? Bullshit. Granted, Ire Works was crap and Colors only so-so, but still. But STILL.

I’m kind of surprised they’re playing the Academy at all, since a) they’ve probably got a slightly lower profile than they did three years ago, and b) the Academy’s not really set up for an ear-splitting metal gig. Still, fair fucks to them if they can fill it out. I’ve been jamming on Option Paralysis (or Operation Paralysis as I can’t stop calling it) and really loving the Mike Patton tinge that’s become ever more pronounced in Greg Puciato’s voice and the Bungle-like melodic turns.

Support on the night comes from Tullamore hardcore act Murdock (presumably chosen for more than just their topical, albeit differently-spelled, name). Their excellent EP, Vol II: Strangers on the Shore, can be heard on Bandcamp and I can’t wait to hear what they sound like up close.
