Too Famous To Get Fully Dressed

Video // Before Machines – ‘Stalagmites’

A couple of weeks back I previewed Croupier’s gig in the Workman’s Club and made positive noises about what I’d heard from the warm-up acts.

I went to see Croupier, but I was most impressed by opening act Before Machines from Belfast. There was only a trickle in the room for the beginning of their short set, but by the end a decent crowd had formed.

They closed with the then-unreleased ‘Stalagmites,’ one of their less aggressive numbers, featuring lush, jazzy chords, stuttering percussion and gentle vocals that remind me of Thursday’s Geoff Rickley with a strong Northern lilt.

Check out the video for ‘Stalagmites’ below and pick up Before Machines free double A-side single, ‘Hearts/Runaway’ on Bandcamp.
