Tonight // Digital Socket Awards
I won’t be able to make it along myself, but it would be remiss of me not to give a shout-out to the Digital Socket Awards, which are scheduled to take place tonight in the loft of the Grand Social (formerly Pravda).
The Digital Sockets are, in short, an alternative awards show organised by a
cabal group of evil dedicated and insular influential bloggers. They threw open the nominations process to the public last month and, from the submissions received, narrowed each category down to the top 5. The winner in each category will receive some sort of lovely prize, though rumours of a support slot on the Whatmans’ world tour have so far proven unfounded.
From what I can gather, the event is night-on sold out, but there’ll be a couple dozen tickets on the door for anybody willing to chance their arm on last-minute admission. All proceeds go to Aware, so you’ve no excuse not to put your hand in your pocket. The event will be MCed by comedian Gareth Stack and there will be performance from Popical Island act Groom (who are nominated for Best Indie Act) and Meljoann (nominated for Best Electronic/Hip Hop Act), plus two very, very special guests.
I’m sure at this late stage, the organisers won’t mind me revealing that the special guests will be Ant & Dec. No, really.
The full list of nominees is too long to repost here, so head on over to the Digital Sockets site and see for yourself.
